Blood presence in urine at the time of pregnancy which is known as hematuria, is a sign of severe health problems. This problem occurs due to unusual intensity of red blood cells in urine. This problem could be a sign of bladder stones, urinary tact or kidney infections. There are two kinds of hematuria which are microscopic hematuria and gross hematuria. In microscopic hematuria, you can not trace presence of blood cells with naked eyes but in gross hematuria you can detect it easily.

Reasons behind hematuria
There could be several reasons behind this problem which includes viral infection, tenderness of kidney, bladder cancer, etc. some of the common reasons are below.

Infection of urinary tract Infection of urinary tract or infection of chronic bladder is a very common reason behind hematuria. Pregnant women are more sensitive to have this problem. With the growth of uterus and its weight, the urine passage from bladder can get blocked and cause hematuria.

Bladder and kidney stones Stones in kidney can also cause blood presence in urine. This can cause pain because stones make a way through urinary tract. Deposition of hard minerals in kidney can also cause pain around kidney areas along with vomiting or nausea.

Kidney problems Presence of blood in urine can also be due to kidney infection or injured upper urinary tract.
Bladder, prostate and kidney and bladder cancer This is a common problem among people who are above 40 years in age. Blood presence in urine may indicate prostate and kidney cancer or bladder cancer.

Regnant women are also influenced with medical situations which include sickle cell anemia, diabetes or lupus. In many cases, high intensity of protein in urine is also present.

Symptoms
Hematuria can be noticed if urine appears red, pinkish or brown. Fever and nausea with loss of appetite and weight may be noticed in hematuria. In case of microscopic hematuria, none of the above mentioned symptoms appear.

Identification and cure
This problem should be detected as early as possible. Many tests are available to detect hematuria. After detecting it, you should immediately go for medical assistance and seek cure.

could I be pregnant? please help!?
Background info–This past month I not been taking my birth control consistently. And i have been feeling really sick-just tired and not wanting to do anything, my jaw locked up a few times… I felt like hell! So I got the idea that it might be Lyme’s disease so I went to the doctor and found out that I was correct and I am also boarder line Lupus- I am now on antibiotics. which should clear it all up…

Problem- Last saturday I started spotting which I know can be from being inconsistent with birth control so I stopped taking it because the antibiotics contradict it anyway. The spotting continued for over a week until yesterday. (I was supposed to start my period this saturday) I took home pregnancy tests on monday and tuesday which both came back negative. this past saturday I ate Activia yogurt and it made me get really sick for about a half hour and then I felt perfectly fine. I have had the metallic taste in my mouth which I know can be another pregnancy sign and I have been moody…

I am having all of these symptoms but they could be related to the lyme and other things?? am I just being paranoid? I am planning on taking another test tomorrow morning if it comes back negative should I just leave it alone and figure it is just coincidence or should I go to the doctor? please help?

38 weeks pregnant with inconclusive HIV test results.?
I am in my 38th week of my 4th pregnancy. Since December, I have been tested 3 times for HIV. All of my tests have come back inconclusive and I have become very uneasy as my due date comes closer and closer. Before this pregnancy, I was tested for HIV every 6-7 months and always got a negative result. My ob/gyn has asked me to return to the lab where my last 3 test were administered for another test before my child is born. The lab has performed ELISA, Western Blot and mouth swab tests. I am no longer confident in these methods. I have been told several times that more than one inconclusive result should be taken as a negative but I can not bring myself to accept the fact that I have yet to receive a clear answer. My ob/gyn has referred me to a hematologist for a 4th test. He believes I may have lupus or an over/underactive thyroid which could be affecting my test results. I am SURE I am HIV NEGATIVE as my partner has been tested everytime I was with negative outcomes. Please advise

trust that the dostors know what they are doing and are taking into consideration your situation with your pregnancy. i am sure you are not HIV positive so i would try and relax since stress isn’t good for the baby. have faith and be safe.

Is there any Impact of lupus (DLE) on pregnancy?
I am 28yrs old..I was suffering from eczema for 8-10yrs that was frm period 1992 to 2002 approx. and i was under medication for that..now i m having black marks on my legs and m not having any medicines currently..later i had another skin issue called lupus(DLE),some rashes wherever i get exposed to sun.which started in 2006 and i was under medication for sometime…I got married in 2007 and its gng to be 2 yrs..we r planning for a family for more than a year, nothng has wrked till now…..We have also consulted gyaenic, done scanning and all tests no problems in the reports for both of us..could u pls help me out whether this can be the problem behind it?

    1. Angie

I would consult a rheumatologist or immunologist with your concerns. I have Sjogren’s Syndrome, another autoimmune disorder which affects the skin and organs. I have had two successful pregnancies and both of my children are healthy. The specialists that deal with Lupus would have great knowledge about your issues. I wish you the best of luck.

    Can Lupus affect pregnancy tests?
I am 23. I am now two weeks late for my period. I have had SLE or Systemic Lupus Erythematosus for 4 years now. I have taken two pregnancy tests and both were negative. I am wondering if Lupus can create false negatives. I have read that it can easily create false positives. So I would think that it could go both ways. Does anyone have any information on Lupus and pregnancy tests? more specifically false negatives? I really haven’t felt right lately either. I have been very nauseous and extremely tired. I appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks

I need information about pregnancy help and what is called so I can do more research on it.?
I been having miscarraiges problem 7 times but I only got one lucky survivor permature baby. I believe that it my immune system cause rebel the embyro when I conceive because all test came out normal. My body won’t accept holding the baby in full term and I get miscarrage before 3 months. I am RH negative and my immune system is very senstive. I tried test for Lupus but it came out negative because my body have silmiar symptom of lupus. My husband’s sperm is good and it shouldn’t cause problem. So I want to know where can i get information from online about getting my egg and my husband’s sperm to put in another woman body to carry baby for us full term. I heard about that but Im interest in research about that because we might want to do that way because I want to protect my health and Im on medication recently for nerve and body pain. I really apprecaite if I get helpful information. I want to get information first before I go talk doctor about that. We both are deaf

    1. captain9901

There are many infertility clinics that offer the service you are talking about. I am having a hard time conceiving and have seen different options on websites. If you put in Infertility into your search engine, the internet will pull up many clinics for you. Also, it will help you find one in your area. Most insurance plans do not cover infertility, just to warn you. The cost can be pretty extreme. I would also fight to get some answers from your dr about why you are miscarrying so much. Have they tried putting you on progesterone? That might help.

Why is my doctor making me get a pregnancy test before putting me on Plaquenil?
I’ve been undergoing numerous test in the past months after two biopsies came back positive for a connective tissue disorder, suggestive of lupus. I recently went to a new doctor who believes i have Lupus-like syndrome. I’m only 18 and i told my doctor i am in no way pregnant, why is she still making me have a pregnancy test?

    1. Skyetai

Preliminary reports suggest that azathioprine (Imuran) and hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) do not harm babies, but the final word is not yet in on these. Your physician is REQUIRED to have lab tests completed before beginning a med like this. It’s nothing personal, it’s just a way for your doc to ensure you are safe.

    I have a pregnancy question?
Before someone says it… I’M NOT A TROLL… this is an extra account so my significant other doesn’t see this question..

I’m 21 years old and yes, sexually active with my husband (not just some random guy lol)
    1 pregnancy test said positive
    2 said negative…

    haha, yea… it sucks.

I’ve been crazy moody/emotional, sleepy, some but not insane cravings (mostly cheese and I’m not a cheese fan LOL), back and abdominal pains, swollen and tender breasts, clear discharge, strange acne breakouts, but have NOT missed a period.. it falls as predicted on my menstrual calendar and lasts just as long, but is a little lighter than previous months..

    what do you think?

From what I’ve been reading it can be 1 of 2 things- pregnancy or lupus (which runs on both sides of my family.. and I don’t have the best immune system as it is..)

Obviously I should go to the doctor, but I work for a living so it’s kind of hard to just take a day off…. I’m just looking for some real advice from real people. Thank you to everyone who answers!

    I am nauseous every night?
Tonight is the worst. Sat in front of the toilet for 15minutes waiting and trying to throw up.

For the past three weeks I have been nauseous only in the evenings. I am on birth control; been on my birth control for almost a year and never had this problem. I took a pregnancy test two weeks ago and it came out negative. It happens either before I eat (which causes me to not eat much) and then most of the time around 8- 10pm.

The only major diseases in my family is Diabetes and Lupus, those are rare

Who knows someone who has lupus and has gotten pregnant more than once with a healthy pregnanc?
I have Lupus and had a healthy first pregnancy, after two years me and my husband tried for one more and I have had 3 miscarriages, I don’t know what is going on, Im going to see the doctor and get test done, I just want to know does anyone know about this or had this happen to you.

    Pregnant? Not Pregnant? Confused …?
I had a positive OPK on Feb 7th & 8th (possibly on the 6th also). My husband and I had sex on the 7th, 8th, 9th and 11th. On the 13th-16th I had some unusual bleeding. It was mostly Brown, some red … came and went usually would happen in the morning then go away by the afternoon. It kind of looked like the end of a period. I have PCOS and Lupus and very irregular periods. I had a miscarriage in October of 06 and my last “period” was Nov. 22, 06. I thought maybe it was a weird period and PMS but my breasts still hurt, im really tired and I didnt bleed enough for it to have been a period, but who knows …. Also, I did a pregnancy test yesterday that came out negative.

I am confused … Please help

    1. luv2write

It could be too early for the HPT to pick up increasing hormone levels. I’d wait another week and test again. If you can’t stand the suspense, call your OB/GYN for an appt. I have PCOS and had similar symptoms and wound up being pregnant. Also, considering your miscarriage, PCOS and lupus status, ask your doctor about being tested for thrombophilia. If you are positive, treatment early in pregnancy can help prevent miscarriage.

In the meantime, start taking prenatal vitamins, or at least women’s vitamins with 100% RDA of folic acid. Good luck!

    Pregnancy or Clomid Withdrawal?
I need some help … Im confused, I have Lupus, PCOS & the Anti-cardiolipin antibody. I am on CD 28, I do not have regular periods, in fact I rarely have periods so im not sure when AF is supposed to come. I had two good follicles on CD 16 so my doc gave me the HCG shot, I went in on CD 17 in the afternoon for my IUI and my doc started me on Progestrone suppositories (messy). On CD 21 I started getting bloated & gassy & cramping started & I had very vivid dreams. Ever since then I have had the following symptoms: Today is CD 28-Bloated, Gassy, Sore Nipples, Heavy Breasts that Seem Larger & in my way, Vivid Dreams, cramping, sometimes severe sometimes just achy, dizzy spells, hot flashes, nauseous at times, today I have a slight headache & im agitated, somewhat tired in the afternoon but nothing more then normal & I toss & turn at night … I took a test this morning but it was negative, could this actually finally be pregnancy or clomid withdrawl? Am I just testing too soon? Help !!

    1. TennesseeChicky

What sucks about Clomid is that it totally mimicks pregnancy symptoms. Everything you mentioned I experienced while taking Clomid, only to turn up a BFN. I would think that you’re 11 DPO/IUI and should wait another couple of days before testing again. It is highly possible you can be pregnant. The reason I suggest waiting is that you may have ovulated the day after your IUI and it can take up to 10 days for the HCG hormone to register in your urine. For me, I was 16 DPO (days past ovulation) before I got my BFP. GOod luck to you!

What is going on with my body! Sorry bout the length?
So I have had these symptoms for quite sometime now and so far every doctor I go to kind of brushes it off as nothing (with no explanations other than the possibility or having the stomach flu) but this is getting bothersome!! Now before you say I am pregnant please read my entire post properly. I have taken 3 pregnancy tests within this month (1 at the doctors, 2 home tests) all results negative. My period has been normal.

It started out about 3 or 4 weeks ago. My appetite was gone and the idea of food made me want to puke. When I finally began to feel hungry I could barely eat, I constantly felt nauseous and full. I have had an upset stomach for a long time now (gross I know) and the other day only mucus came out. I have felt really sick in the mornings and without an alarm I can’t seem to wake up(15+ hours of sleep) I have never had a problem with motion sickness but now whenever I get on the bus I feel as if I am going to projectile vomit on other passengers. I have been more sensitive to smell. Also my breasts have been really freaking sore!! I mean holy crap! I don’t think I can say in words how much they ache! I am a 36D so I would like to think I am not growing anymore. I am wearing a proper sized bra(went to get measured) the pain I feel is either like a dull pain on the side or some shooting pain that goes from the top to my nipple (sorry I’m starting to get graphic aren’t I?) also they are sore whenever they are touched. Oh also it feels like there is so much freaking mucus in between my throat and nose (for like 6 months)

I know I sound so whiny but I am getting tired of my doctor saying it’s the stomach flu! Any opinion helps! Thank you!!

(additional details that may or may not help:
My period started when I was 10, I had a miscarriage back in Nov 2009, had an ulcer back in 2008, have been checked for Lupus back in 2007 results were neg. I do have depression for the past 4 years, no STI, I had the shooting pains back in 2006 but they went away and my doc checked my breasts and nothing was wrong, I feel sharp pains on my sides in the morning, my body feels sore in the morning (I dont think it’s my mattress because I have this problem even when I stay at my friends’ house) and for a while my left side would randomly twitch and I stopped taking meds about 1 and half months, not on birth control at the moment)

    1. honey brown sugar

wow, you just described me in a nut shell. i had the same symptoms and it turns out i have lupus SLE. i am not trying to scare you, but doctor’s mis diagnosed me for a year. you might need to check with an actual lupus specialist. there are no specific tests out there that can detect lupus for sure, that is why it is so hard to pin point. but you need to find out now and not later. lupus is a horrible disease. if you can afford it, go see a lupus specialist and tell them all your symptoms. and make sure it is a doctor familiar with lupus. good luck sweetie 🙂

  16. heygrneyz

    Pregnancy Symptoms?
I did my first round of clomid last month (I took it 4/22 – 4/26). I am also taking prenatal vitamins and metformin. I would say within the past week I have had headaches, more frequent urination, sore breasts (sides and armpit area), sore nipples when not in a bra, slight and sometimes more then slight cramping, bloated/full feeling in my lower abdomen, gassy, queasy every now and then, sensitive to smells and extrememly tired. I dont have regular periods and I have Lupus and Poly Cystic Ovaries. I have taken pregnancy tests every couple of days and they keep turning out negative. I feel more pregnant now then I did when I was back in October (I miscarried on 10/19). Do you think im pregnant? Could it be aunt flow? I have never had PMS like this before though and usually when I do the cramping and sore breasts only last for a day or two, this has been going on for about a week or more. I really hope im pregnant but I also hope im not making myself feel these things, please help

    1. AnaMomof5

I wish I could tell you that yes, you are definitely pregnant. The symptoms are all there. But these are also symptoms felt by Clomid users as they approach their menstrual cycles. I’m also PCOS, get 4 or 5 periods a year, and used Clomid for my oldest son, and I can’t tell you how many months went by that I thought, hey… it’s finally worked! And it hadn’t.

If the symptoms continue without a period for another two weeks, call your OB and ask for a beta blood test. Since you are irregular and have PCOS, this will be far more accurate than a home pregnancy test. Good luck — I hope you get positive results!

I have a friend who thinks she’s pregnant?
My friend thinks she may be pregnant, because the boys condom broke and she has all the basic symptoms. She’s nauseated, cramping, her lower back hurts, sore breasts, headaches, spotting, she bleed for 12 days thinking it was her period too. She has Lupus so we’re confused. We really need some info. Oh and we ARE getting a pregnancy test sooner or later. She’s still a little scared. 🙂

    1. Malori

I don’t agree with what that girl just said as I have two children and I had what I thought was my period for the first three months of my pregnancy. I also took 4 tests in that time and they all came negative but low and behold… I was pregnant and have the daughter to prove it.

Get a test, sounds like she is pregnant

  18. dede

How serious is Lupus during pregnancy?
My daughter had preclampsia with her first pregnancy. She is approximately 9 wks. along and is showing signs of the condition already. Last week her doctor told her that current symptoms she is having all point to the possibility of Lupus. He ran some test, and said depending on the test results may decide to hospitalize her for a few days for further testing and begin a treatment plan. I am terribly worried for my daughter and her unborn baby. Just wondered if anyone out their has experienced somewhat the same, and looking for some feedback. Thank you in advance.

    1. Faerie

Don’t worry. Lupus rarely affects the baby of a woman who has it, but it isn’t nice at all for the mother. Often women contract Lupus whilst pregnant or after they’ve had a baby, as Lupus is often triggered by this. I once knew a woman who had her Lupus at its very worse after she had her first baby. I’ve known 2 women with it, and the second one was so exhausted she spent most of a year in a wheelchair. But Lupus is rarely fatal nowadays, and it’s not disfiguring. They usually use steroids to treat it. (I’m not talking about illegal drugs, I’m talking about medical drugs that have nothing to do with muscle building). Lupus can range in severity. Your daughter’s baby will be fine.

I’m not going to guarantee you that everything, including the baby, will be ship-shape and fine and dandy, but it is VERY likely. I know the woman above gave you some bad news about premature or ill babies, but the truth is, the two women I know have had 2 or more babies, all completely normal and healthy. Seriously. Not trying to make you feel better. Have a little faith, dear:) Good luck xxx

Lot’s of lupus symptoms, but not sure if I should freak out yet….?
I started going to the doctor at the beginning of the school year when my headaches that I’ve had for years started getting really bad and I had a week of the world spinning in my head along with ringing in my ears. I though it was Ménière’s or just an ear infection since I have a history of it. My doctor told me my ear was fine and said I might just have migraines. Took lot’s of migraine medicine, including Imitriex. Nothing worked and I switched doctors, my new doctor sent me to a neurologist after nothing worked. My neurologist made me get an MRI, CAT scan, Xrays, EEG, EMG (idk the names) I had blood drawn five different times, I even had a pregnancy test (why idk). My EMG (or w/e) showed that I had a pinched nerve in my back and neck, I took medication and had work outs, but my back still hurts (yea, I forgot to mention I have a bad back). My ANA tests came back abnormal, my doctor wanted a lupus profile though he said that he didn’t think I had it.
My insurance canceled on my before I could get the profile thing done. I did some research on Lupus and then I realized, oh my, I have most of those symptoms…..so I’m not sure if I should freak out or not…
    Symptoms:
X Painful or swollen joints and muscle pain.
    X Unexplained fever
X Red rashes, most commonly on the face
X Chest pain upon deep breathing
    X Unusual loss of hair
X Pale or purple fingers or toes from cold or stress (Raynaud’s phenomenon)
X Swelling (edema) in legs or around eyes
    X Swollen glands
    X Extreme fatigue
    X Anemia
    X Low white something
    X Headaches
    X Dizziness
    X Confusion
    X mini-depressions.

So you tell me, I want to know if I should spend nearly a thousand dollars in medical bills…or more if I really do have it…
oh, and i get these weird times when the room gets really bright and funny and it gets really hot and i feel really tired and i start sweating and i want to throw up. i just feel really bad, i have to sit down for five minutes, and even afterwards i still feel bad.

    1. hpsredwood

I would definately pay the money and get the insurance. From there I would have the doctor do further testing to investigate. There are a lot of diseases that can mimic Lupus and vice versa. It is better to rule it out (or in) than to let anything progress. If you do have something your going to need insurance with all the testing and presciptions!!
Have they given you Maxalt? that is the only one that semi works for my Lupus headaches/migraines.
      Good Luck!

  20. Mercury Pearl

I really need everyone’s help PLEASE (Preg questions)?
I could be pregnant. The last time I had sex with my boyfriend was on June 17th and that’s because he went back to Arizona to visit his family so I haven’t seen him since. I have been going to the hospital lately for reasons unrelated, because I think I might have lupus or cancer. I have been throwing up violently but I’m not sure if it’s because of the illnesses I might have, or because I might be pregnant (or both?).
If I were pregnant, I’d be 1 month along right now.
About 4 days ago I didn’t know I might be pregnant so I drank…a lot. I got wasted, I had 1 beer and countless shots of whiskey.
I am on birth control, I was on the Depo Shot when he was out here, and then after he left I switched to the pills.

    I have two questions,
when is the soonest I can take a pregnancy test? Could I take one tomorrow morning since I might be 1 month along already?

and also, do you think the alcohol I had will cause problems to the baby if I’m pregnant? Or do you think it won’t because it would be too soon in the pregnancy and it was only once? (I’m never drinking again.)
No I haven’t gotten my period yet but my period has been very random for months because of the Depo shot. I got it on the 8th of June and it lasted for like 3 weeks straight. So I don’t know when I should be expecting this period. My normal menstrual cycle before I started birth control was always around the 20th of each month.

    1. Marie W

You should be able to take a test now if your think your that far gone.

It would be best to go and see a doctor as being pregnant could complicate things if you do have cancer or lupus. Most cancer tumours thrive on the hormones you secrete in pregnancy so it needs to be checked out asap.

As for the drinking, i know loads of women who have got drunk when they didn’t know they were pregnant, including myself, and the babies have been fine. But you do need to stop now as continued drinking can cause problems. If you are pregnant they will be able to pick up any problems on the ultrasound. You can’t change the past so just be extra careful now.

  21. Jeanie

Can lupus cause your period to get wacky?
I come from a family with 2 generations of SLE, my mother and my grandmother were diagnosed when they were about my age.

In regards to the “wacky” period, let me preface this by saying that I used to be able to set a clock by my cycle — every 28 days.

Two cycles ago my period was 4 days early.
My last cycle was a week late.
My period is now a little over 2 weeks late, with multiple (6) negative home pregnancy tests.

Has anyone with Lupus ever had an experience where you missed/had a late period when you started to get symptom of Lupus? I also have noticed my joints hurting more in the past few months, and I seem to be more tired. Both of which I know are symptoms.

I know I need to see a doctor, but it would be nice to know if someone else has had a similar experience.

i have lupus, i might be pregnant, i have a horrible boil, could these all be connected?
i know that having lupus and being pregnant can be a risky thing, i am very unsure if i am pregnant or not, i have not had a real period since August 4th, my lower abdomen is very hard and normally its pretty squishy, this started around the beginning off september, right around the time my “period” was late, before september my periods were usually very regular, never more then 2 days late or early, but then in september, it was 8 days late, i started on the 12th, i went and bought a test on the 12th, went to work before i could take it, and started my period, or what i thought was a period. it started as brown spotting, which is also weird since i normally have insanely heavy periods, my doctor said that if i didn’t have such high amounts of iron in my blood all the time, i would become anemic during my periods. and it stayed brown for 2 days, and really light, the next months i was late yet again, i started on the 16th, and my “period” was the same as before, but only lasted 2 days this time. oh september it was only 3 days long. my stomach is getting harder every week, my boobs hurt a little bit, my head hurts all the time, my lower back hurts, my feet and ankles are swollen every day. and for the last week it feels like somethings moving around inside me, its really faint, but its starting to worrie me. i have lupus and i have been having alot of flares lately, my hair has been thining alot more then usual, ive been getting cancker sores alot, and now i got this horrible boil under my armpit, ive been getting little ones on my lower abdomen for a couple years, but they were usualy very small and didnt hurt. they usualy happen if i where tight pants, but ive been cramping so much i cant wear them, im a very clean person, i never go more then 2 days without a shower, i eat relitivly healthy, but i just looked up boils and found lupus can be why people get them, but the one under my arm pit is huge! i mean 3 inches round, and sticks out about 1/2 inch, i saw that heat helps draw the infection out so i got a heating pad, and i get a hot clean wash cloth and alternate with those, and it still hurts really bad, but only if i take it off the heat.
also, i have taken so many pregnancy test its not funny, and all different kinds. all came up negative. i do not have insurence, im finnaly able to get it threw my job, i just have to sign up for it. which i did today. but until the insurence kicks in, i have to wait and see. im just curious if this has happend to anyone else.
please help me. i dont understand whats going on with my body.
if i am pregnant i would be very happy, if im not then ohwell.
i just wanna know already. whats going on with me?!?!?!?!?

How do autoimmune disease affect fertility and pregnancy?
I would like to start trying for a baby next year. I have chronic erticaria and raynauds, and I have been tested for lupus twice and recieved a low positive result. I am really worried.

    1. .

Systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus) may appear for the first time, worsen, or become less severe during pregnancy. How a pregnancy affects the course of lupus cannot be predicted, but the most common time for flare-ups is immediately after delivery.

Women who develop lupus often have a history of repeated miscarriages, fetuses that do not grow as much as expected, and preterm delivery. If women have complications due to lupus (such as kidney damage or high blood pressure), the risk of death for the fetus or newborn is increased.

In pregnant women, lupus antibodies may cross the placenta to the fetus. As a result, the fetus may have a very slow heart rate, anemia, a low platelet count, or a low white blood cell count. However, these antibodies gradually disappear over several weeks after the baby is born, and the problems they cause resolve except for the slow heart rate.

Autoimmune Disorders: The abnormal antibodies produced in autoimmune disorders can cross the placenta and cause problems in the fetus. Miscariage often happen in 1st and 2nd trimester of pregnancy. Pregnancy affects different autoimmune disorders in different ways.

Raynaud’s comes in two forms. One is Raynaud’s disease, which occurs in isolation. The other is Raynaud’s phenomenon, which occurs in conjunction with other diseases, including scleroderma, a hardening and shrinking of the skin; lupus, a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the skin, joints, kidneys, nervous system and mucous membranes; and rheumatoid arthritis. Raynaud’s phenomenon also commonly occurs in people who use vibrating or hammering tools or instruments
It’s not known why more women than men have Raynaud’s, but women get autoimmune diseases such as scleroderma and lupus more than men do, and Raynaud’s often develops with these.

      Pregnancy often aggravating urticaria.

Your condition is very complicated. But there are many worst condition. Baby are worthed, every women ready to sacrifice almost everything to have baby. You might need ask your family to support you, get as many information as you can, and very important to cooperate with your physicians. Select them carefully. We want you and your future babies to be safe.

      Best wishes.

What’s wrong with me?! Cancer, lupus, or arthritis?
I have soooooo many questions, so here goes:

I’m a 19 year old female. Since last November, I’ve had a constant dull pain in the left side of my upper back. I got an x-ray of my entire lumbar region, and it showed nothing unusual. I also get extreme headaches, intense heartburn, mucus in my stool, and extreme fatigue. I’ve gained about 30 lbs in a year. I got an endoscopy and colonoscopy to see where the mucus in my stool/ heartburn was coming from, but the doctor said my GI tract was beautiful. I’ve had 1,000 pregnancy tests, so I know I’m not pregnant.

I’m prescribed Flexeril and Tramadol (neither of which helps at all), I take daily vitamins (which is why I’m stumped by the low vitamin d levels), and I smoke marijuana (would it cause the weird blood test results?) everyday. I was also on Accutane for about 5 months between Oct 2009 and Feb 2010.

I just got some of my blood test results back and I have Elevated Sed Rate, Elevated C-reactive Protein (CRP), and Low Vitamin D.

My primary care doctor suspects that I might have rheumatoid arthritis, and, she hasn’t confided in me yet, but I think she also suspects lupus.

My main concern is cancer. Basically everyone in my family has had cancer or died from cancer. From the details I’ve given, do any of you think I could have cancer? Have you known anyone with the same symptoms who had cancer? If not, what do you think it could be?

    Any help would be appreciated.
I know my dr. is suspecting lupus because she told my mom it’s a possibility (my dr and mom are best friends). My dad died of cancer, my mom had cancer, all of my grandmas and grandpas died of cancer, 3 of my 5 aunts died from cancer and one of them had it and survived, 3 out of 3 uncles have died from it, and 1 out of my 5 half-brothers has had it.
I’m not on birth control pills and I’m a little overweight, but not a whole lot. I live in Florida, and I’ve been at the beach for almost all summer, so I know I haven’t had a lack of sun.
Also, I didn’t pay for the pregnancy tests. Doctors gave them to me when I had the endo/colonoscopy, before I had x-rays, the entire time I was on Accutane, and not to mention the 6 or so times I’ve had my blood tested in the past 3 months. I’m not stupid, I know about safe sex.

    1. april

Seems like you got a lot going on. Most drs would order an ultrasound with the pain you’re having. It would be cheaper to invest in some condoms than pay for 1000 pregnancy tests.. I had extremely low vitamin levels because I never got in the sun. Your body needs about 20 minutes of full on sunlight to get the vit d you’re lacking. High CRP is caused by infection, inflammation or being overweight…or PID. It is also elevated if you’re taking birth control pills. By Sed rate, I’m assuming you mean ESR, erythrocyte sedimentation rate? Just another test for inflammation.
She hasn’t confided in you yet her thoughts on Lupus? Then how did you come by this knowledge? Do you know what Lupus is? If you had it or your dr suspected it, tests would’ve been run by now to verify, because lupus will kill you if left untreated. You were on accutane for quite a while…longer than most. I was on it and it can cause some wicked side effects, including bone pain.

Has everyone in your family had the same cancer? Have they all had it while younger? And when you say basically everyone, who does that mean??

You’re the second person to ask a question today, that a parent was best friends with the dr…doesn’t matter either way. You are of age and your condition can not be discussed without you present or without your knowledge first and you have to give explicit consent on who gets to know what. If you’re at the beach almost every day, then to be sure, you use a sunblock, which would also prevent absorption of the rays and would not make the vit d3. Most people are actually deficient in vit d.

In rheumatoid arthritis, the small joints of the hands, wrists, feet, and knees are typically inflamed in a symmetrical distribution (affecting both sides of the body).

Have they included these tests for antibodies when they took your blood?
Abnormal antibodies can be found in the blood of people with rheumatoid arthritis. An antibody called “rheumatoid factor” can be found in 80% of patients. Citrulline antibody (also referred to as anticitrulline antibody, anticyclic citrullinated peptide antibody, and anti-CCP) is present in people with rheumatoid arthritis.

X-rays can show bony erosions typical of rheumatoid arthritis in the joints. Joint X-rays can also be helpful in monitoring the progression of disease and joint damage over time. Bone scanning, a radioactive procedure, can also be used to demonstrate the inflamed joints. MRI scanning can also be used to demonstrate joint damage.

      Lupus…
      ■Fatigue
      ■Fever
      ■Weight loss or gain
      ■Joint pain, stiffness and swelling
■Butterfly-shaped rash (malar rash) on the face that covers the cheeks and bridge of the nose
■Skin lesions that appear or worsen with sun exposure
      ■Mouth sores
      ■Hair loss (alopecia)
■Fingers and toes that turn white or blue when exposed to cold or during stressful periods (Raynaud’s phenomenon)
      ■Shortness of breath
      ■Chest pain
      ■Dry eyes
      ■Easy bruising
      ■Anxiety
      ■Depression
      ■Memory loss

      I have Reynaud’s, it sucks..

I have a strong connection with people I care about..?
To the point where I feel what they feel.
I had all of the symptoms of pregnancy a while ago. There was no way I was pregnant, though.
I got my sister-in-law a box of pregnancy tests; negative.
The next day, my cousin called to inform us that she was pregnant.
Two weeks later I felt like shite, she called within the week to tell us she had a miscarriage.

My father cut his finger to the bone many years back at work.
Half an hour before my mum called to tell my brother and I to get around; my entire hand [and especially my ring finger] hurt like a b*tch.

    etc.

Now; I have what I’d consider — strong feelings for this boy. We talk and hang out during the school day quite a lot.
For the past month or two [which is when we’ve been getting closer], I’ve been getting headaches off and on. My eyesight seems to have blurred when I try to focus on things far away from me. I get dizzy and have problems walking at intervals during the day.
My doctor has no idea what is causing the headaches, but he feels that my motor and visionary problems may be a result of the headache.
I am otherwise in perfect health.

Today I found out that the boy has been diagnosed with Lupus.
I had no idea what that was until I came home and searched online.

Not only do I feel completely crestfallen, and just want to take him into my arms and squeeze him; but I also feel the need to dull my own symptoms from the connections I get.
I won’t sever my connections to my family and friends; but I don’t want to be going through the same exact thing that they’re going through.
I’d much rather be able to access those problems to help them through; but always be able to hold their hands and wipe their eyes when needed; instead of needing it done for myself.

    Question:
How can I keep the connections, but dull the symptom-connections?

    Also:
If anyone has anything similar to these connections; it would really help me to hear your story or something.
    Thank you.

    1. Saved from TN

Sorry, I can’t say I’ve ever experienced anything like you.
The best I can tell you is to talk to someone or some sort of specialist.

Sounds like a job for Gregory House. haha

    Lupus and Pregnancy?
I was just wondering if you can be pregnant and have lupus? i already have a daughter and Ihad a bad pregnancy with her they thought it was my gallbladder well two weeks after I had her I got it taken out and now i am pregnant again and I am having the same kind of pregnancy. Well anyways like I said i am pregnant again and well with my first pregnancy they told me I was anemiac and now with this one it has gotten really bad some days i feel great but others i could just sleep all day (even when I am not pregnant) and i get really bad headaches that last for days at a time even when i am sleeping i can feel them and dont sleep good. Anyways I just was wondering if i should get tested for this disease or if I am just over reacting because I do worry alot so please help!

    1. EllE

Is there a reason you think you have Lupus? You can have Lupus and be pregnant at the same time. Lupus can also go in waves of how active it is in your body. There is a test for you, but as I remember it wasn’t very accurate to narrow it down. Talk to you OB/GYN for some guidance and you can always get more than one opinion.

  27. Judi

    Disease or imagination?
For more than ten years, and especially the last several months after I quit smoking, I have been tired and sore all of the time. I have trouble sleeping and also finding a way to exercise without pain bad enough to make me stop. The only times I have seen a doctor was during my pregnancies, and it’s normal to be tired and sore when you’re pregnant. I was tested for lupus during my pregnancies because I developed a butterfly rash on my cheeks, but both times the doctors said I didn’t have it. My sister has an autoimmune disease that they haven’t been able to diagnose (she has had pupura for five years without the cause being found), and my father has multiple sclerosis.

I don’t have health insurance, so it’s not very easy for me to go to a doctor. My husband says that I’m always imagining that something is wrong with me and that it’s an excuse for not getting more done around the house. I’m starting to wonder, though, if it might be something treatable. Any ideas?

    1. lindalainey

OH the old “guilt trip”. Are they not darling to lay that on us when we feel so awful. Ok, since your dad has MS you would prob recognize these symptoms if you were going there and also a doc would get right on it. I am going to venture a guess of Fibromyagia, aka Fibro. It makes every muscle in your body ache, relentlessly. It has only been recognized as a very real condition in past 5 or 10 years. Here is the test the Arthritis specialist gave me…He had me hold out my arm..level.. and pinched the skin and muscle tissue and it hurt like *)*&!!. Some one who does not have Fibro, that won’t hurt or at least not very much. Test yourself this way and go from there, I hope you dont have fibro.. Good luck and hugs, Lainey

    11 days late!? Pregnant?
I think i’m pregnant, but i got negative home pregnancy tests at 5 and 9 days late..
I plan to take another at 13 days late.

..I cant get to a doctor for another two weeks.. So i need opinions, help and experiencess?

I have a feww symptoms of pregnancy.. sore boobs and nipples, increased discharge, mood swings, the missed period!..
But still no + test 🙁

Do medications effect home pregnancy tests?
My friend just thinks its cause i’m stressed, but i really havent been that stressed, and that has never made my period this late before!
..Also i have lupus and my body has definately been flaring lately (i’m convienced it’s because of the pregnancy)

..But idk, can i still be pregnant aside from the two – tests?

Does anyone have any experience with lupus and pregnancy?
I have had 4 miscarriages and after extensive tests it turns out i have a type of lupus to do with antiphospholipid antibodies.

I have been told this is the cause of my miscarriages and on the day i next find out im pregnant i will have to inject every day possibly until the baby is born and for a few months afterwards. I havent had this condition forever as i already have an 8 year old son and had no complications whilst being pregnant with him.

Just want to know if anyone has had this happen to them and what the injections are like (im a baby when it comes to needles). Anyone had any good results for example a baby??
Just thought i better add the injections are for heparin.
I just wanted to add that my own health with reard to the lupus is not under threat. I only have a slightly high reading for the antibody in question and so i do not need any medical intervention yet.

I am under the care of a very experianced gynaecologist who will be seeing me through my pregnancy, he has been my consultant for 6 years as i initially had problems concieving due to an unrated problem.
My consultant as i say is very experienced in dealing with high risk pregnancies and i know i will be very safe in his care.

    I just hope this works

    Conflicting tests, am I pregnant?
My boyfriend and I recently (August 6th) had sex for the first time. He wore a condom and pulled out a second or two before he ejaculated, because I was around my ovulation at the time and we’re both rather paranoid.

On August 12th I began bleeding lightly and had some dark brown spotting. It lasted for about two days. I thought this might be implantation bleeding, because my periods have been very regular and my period was not due until the 17th.

On the morning that my period was due, I took a pregnancy test and it came back positive. (Clearblue Easy Digital). I took two more of the same tests and both came back negative. However, knowing that false positives are much less common than false negatives, I wasn’t sure.

Then the same night I got my period. It has been very heavy for 4 days so far, much heavier than usual with a lot of cramping.

I suffer from lupus as well as have ovarian cysts that cause my periods to last around a week and a half. I did some research and read that ovarian cysts have been known to cause false positives on some hpt’s?

What do you people think? Am I pregnant, is it a chemical pregnancy, or am I just being paranoid?
Yes, my period currently has quite a bit of clots in it. Larger and more than usual.

    1. Anna

Well if you received a positive result, you are/were definitely pregnant. False positives are so rare they’re almost impossible. Any positive result you receive on a pregnancy test should be considered accurate and you should see a doctor for confirmation and prenatal care. Since you started bleeding heavily after your test (and you probably should have gone to the ER about that, honestly) it’s likely that you started miscarrying. And yes, this early, it would be considered a chemical pregnancy. Are there clots in the blood? When a woman miscarries it’s best for her to receive medical attention so they can make sure that the uterus empties itself and she doesn’t need a D&C to remove any leftover tissue from the uterus. There’s still a chance that you’re pregnant and not miscarrying, sometimes women bleed during pregnancy and the bleeding is heavy enough to be mistaken as a period. I suggest you go to the doctor for a blood test to determine if you’re still pregnant and if the pregnancy is viable. Good luck.

Okay I recently went to the health department to get my anual and the nurse was really rude About a week after?
I wanted to change my birth control method I was on birth control for two weeks and wanted to change it to the patch. I told them I was on it for a month. I talked to a nurse on the phone and she acted like it’s your fault your sick and blah blah blah. I told her I wanted to talk to the gynecologist. So the gynecologist called me and told me I could switch methods without any tests. I said okay. I got into the office to switch methods, and the gynecologist stated lets give you a pregnancy test to see if your lying. I said thank you anyway but I’ll stay on my method of birth control pills and left. If I go back next year for my annual do you think their will be any animosity towards me by the health care professionals? I requested that I don’t want the nurse that was rude to me on my record. She almost put that I had lupus on my record when I didn’t. Do you think their will be any animosity towards me?

yes yes yes they are like elephants and never forget
my girl friend went through that once and they had it
written in her permanent chart that she was a difficult

      consult her last physician.

While most infants born to mothers who have SLE are healthy, pregnant mothers with SLE should remain under medical care until delivery. Neonatal lupus is rare, but identification of mothers at highest risk for complications allows for prompt treatment before or after birth. In addition, SLE can flare up during pregnancy, and proper treatment can maintain the health of the mother longer. Women pregnant and known to have the antibodies for anti-Ro (SSA) or anti-La (SSB) often have echocardiograms during the 16th and 30th weeks of pregnancy to monitor the health of the heart and surrounding vasculature.

Contraception and other reliable forms of pregnancy prevention is routinely advised for women with SLE, since getting pregnant during active disease was found to be harmful. Lupus nephritis was the most common manifestation. Overall live-birth was 72.7%; the most common causes of pregnancy loss were spontaneous abortion (miscarriage) and fetal death in utero. Pregnancy outcome was worse in SLE patients whose disease flared up during pregnancy.

For the boil use some antibiotic cream and cortisone cream. Oral antibiotics might also help to heal it up if it’s seriously infected!

I use to get giant boils on my butt the size of a silver dollar!

i have lupus pls help me!?
Ok I am currently 19 weeks pregnant. Before this pregnancy I had 2 miscarriages but all before 9 weeks. They rean tests and seen I had lupus and a blood clotting disorder. They said however that my level of lupus was very very mild so not to worry and people go their whole lives with lupus and my clotting disorder which is called mthfr c677t hetero that there are 5 strands of it and mine was number 3 in severity so to just take extra folic acid everyday for the rest of my life. So far I’ve only had the porblems with loosing the babys when it comes to my complications, but this child is doing very very well and the doc plan on everything being ok. I’m nervous thought that I’m going to become a other and then die from my clotting disorder or my lupus and I’m so scared! Can someone please give me some advice of these illnesses? Thank you so much for your answers!!

    1. Starsfan14

I have a clotting disorder. Factor V Leiden. I have two children and I am really healthy. I had a DVT during my first pregnancy. So I was on blood thinners (Lovenox injections) for the rest of that pregnancy and the entire time with my second child.

All is fine. We are all three healthy as can be. I would not be too concerned, although I know it is a bit scary. Lots of woman have clotting disorders while pregnant. It is good that you know so you can take care of yourself. You should be aware of the signs of a clot- pain (generally in the thigh or the calf) swelling, discoloration (generally redness of the area) and warm to the touch. If you have one or more of these warning signs then you should call your doctor immediately. As quick attention can save your life and the life of your baby. That is how I survived my clot. I knew the signs of a clot and when it happened to me I got help fast.

As for the Lupus. My uncle has had severe Lupus for thirty years. For the last 10 years the disease has been in what is considered remission. So he is doing just fine. With good medical care Lupus is very treatable.

      Take care.

i am 32 yrs.old and i am having pregnancy related problem.?
basically i have been pregnant for six times but usually my pregnancy does not keep more than six to seven months.for the first time it was seven months later it keep reducing to four months..according to doctors it is nothing but a viral infection.
i got positive results for several tests suggested by doctors like toxo, rubella, lupus, anticoadulant. about my husband he has gone through all the necessary tests and he got nothing to relate with the problem. so i request you to help me to come out of this problem.

    1. Missyg

You need to meet with a perinatologist. This is a specialist for high-risk pregnancies… I have a genetic marker for heart disease on both sides of my family as well as some other trigger (I am blank on the name at the moment). Anyways, this causes my body to overly clot when I am pregnant. Pregnant women clot more than normal anyways to prevent blood loss during childbirth. Apparently these two triggers together cause this problem, they fixed it with heparin shots twice a day, a baby aspirin a day, a healthy diet with NO refined sugars of any kind and careful monitoring. I had ultrasounds twice a week from 16 weeks to 35 as well as two practice breathing ultrasounds a week (where they count the diaphragm spasms in the baby). I was on Procardia to prevent contractions from progressing the last two weeks (33 – 35) just enough to get me close enough to the safe zone. Also, make sure your teeth are all taken care of… cleaned with no infections or cavaties, this can be a problem for the pregnancy as well. Good Luck! I have been pregnant three times, and I have one son here with me… I know it can be tough!

    Blood test for Lupus?
    Hi everyone

I am 12 weeks 5 days pregnant. My mother has Lupus (SLE) and at my last appointment at the ANC , my consultant asked me to go to phlebotomy for a blood test to see if I am also carrying the disease.

I have read a lot about Lupus to be more aware of my mum’s condition, but until today had never read anything about Lupus and pregnancy. Now I am really worried as Lupus can cause Hughes Syndrome, which causes clots to form and the baby to be starved of blood resulting in miscarriage, and because Lupus causes too many antibodies and it attacks healthy living tissue maybe there’s a chance this can also harm my baby. I am already taking junior aspirin to minimise the risk of clots occurring.

How long do blood tests normally take to come back? I need to put my mind at ease over whether I have it or not, and is there also any Lupus patients on here that have had healthy pregnancies?
    **EDIT**

The aspirin I am taking were prescribed by my consultant. Thanks to the people that have answered for all the information you have given me. I just didn’t feel that the hospital gave me any reasons why Lupus is considered a threat in pregnancy, and have done my own research and got a bit worried by it all I suppose.

Lupus is not directly inherited, so you can’t be “carrying” the disease.

There are no definitive lab tests that prove that you have lupus.

Your blood can, and probably should, be tested for APS (Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome) or Hughes. Chances are good that if you have had no active lupus and no problem with blood clots in the past, you will be just fine.

Do not take aspirin or anything else without speaking to your obstetrician first.

Many women with lupus have successful pregnancies. I am one of them. I lead a lupus support group. Most of the women there have healthy children and even grandchildren.

If you want to know how long it takes for the bloodwork to come back, call your doctor’s office. The length of time will depend on what tests were done and where the specimens had to be sent.

I am 57, have systemic lupus with organ involvement, have two healthy adult sons and two healthy grandchildren. Chances are very good that you and the baby will be just fine!
