Arthritis is a joint disorder featuring inflammation. A joint is an area of the body where two bones meet. A joint functions to allow movement of the body parts it connects. Arthritis literally means inflammation of one or more joints. Arthritis is frequently accompanied by joint pain. Joint pain is referred to as arthralgia.

Arthritis is classified as one of the rheumatic diseases. These are conditions that are different individual illnesses, with differing features, treatments, complications, and prognosis. They are similar in that they have a tendency to affect the joints, muscles, ligaments, cartilage, and tendons, and many have the potential to affect internal body areas as well. There are many forms of arthritis (over 100 have been described so far, and the number is growing). The forms range from those related to wear and tear of cartilage (such as osteoarthritis) to those associated with inflammation as a result of an overactive immune system (such as rheumatoid arthritis). Together, the many forms of arthritis make up the most common chronic illness in the United States.

Arthritis sufferers include men and women, children and adults. Approximately 350 million people worldwide have arthritis. Over 40 million people in the United States are affected by arthritis, including over a quarter million children! More than half of those with arthritis are under 65 years of age. Nearly 60% of Americans with arthritis are women.

Arthritis Causes

The causes of arthritis depend on the form of arthritis. Causes include injury (leading to degenerative arthritis), abnormal metabolism (such as gout and pseudogout), inheritance (such as in osteoarthritis), infections (such as in the arthritis of Lyme disease), and an overactive immune system (such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus). Treatment programs, when possible, are often directed toward the precise cause of the arthritis. More than 21 million Americans have osteoarthritis. Approximately 2.1 million Americans suffer from rheumatoid arthritis.

Arthritis Symptoms

Symptoms of arthritis include pain and limited function of joints. Inflammation of the joints from arthritis is characterized by joint stiffness, swelling, redness, and warmth. Tenderness of the inflamed joint can be present. Loss of range of motion and deformity can result. Certain forms of arthritis can also be associated with pain and inflammation of tendons surrounding joints.

Some forms of arthritis are more of an annoyance than a serious medical problem. However, millions of people suffer daily with pain and disability from arthritis or its complications. Moreover, many of the forms of arthritis, because they are rheumatic diseases, can cause symptoms affecting various organs of the body that do not directly involve the joints. Therefore, symptoms in some patients with certain forms of arthritis can also include fever, gland swelling, weight loss, fatigue, feeling unwell, and even symptoms from abnormalities of organs such as the lungs, heart, or kidneys.

Home Remedies for Arthritis

Arthritis treatment by means of Potato Juice:

The raw potato juice treatment is considered one of the most victorious biological treatments for rheumatic and arthritic situations. It has been used in folk medicine for over centuries. The conventional technique of preparing potato juice is to cut a medium-sized potato into thin slices, without peeling the skin, and put the slices overnight in a big glass filled with cold water. The water should be drunk in the sunrise on an empty stomach.. A medium-sized potato must be diluted with a cup of water and drunk first thing in the morning. One of the good and well liked home remedies for arthritis

Arthritis treatment with Other Raw Juices:

One cup of green juice, extracted from any green leafy vegetable, diverse in equal size with carrot, celery, and red beet juices is superior for arthritis. The alkaline action of raw juices dissolves the gathering of deposits around the joints and in extra tissues. A cup of fresh pineapple juice is also precious, as the enzyme bromelain in fresh pineapple juice reduces swelling and inflammation in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Arthritis treatment via Sesame Seeds

A teaspoon of black sesame seeds, drenched in a quarter cup of water and kept overnight, has been found to be efficient in preventing frequent joint pains. The water in which the seeds are soaked must also be taken along with the seeds first thing in the morning. One of the best home remedies for arthritis

Arthritis treatment by means of Copper:

Drinking water kept overnight in a copper container accumulates traces of copper, which is said to build up the muscular system. A copper ring or bracelet is worn for the same cause.

Arthritis treatment with Calcium

Studies have exposed that calcium can help arthritis. Several patients have discovered that joint pains have either been reassured or have disappeared entirely after taking calcium. This mineral must be taken in the form of calcium lactate. Two teaspoons of calcium lactate, each teaspoon providing 400 mg of absorbable calcium, may be taken three times each day in water, before meals for at least four months.

Arthritis treatment via Garlic:

Garlic is an additional successful remedy for arthritis. It contains an anti-inflammatory property, which accounts for its efficiency in the treatment of this disease. Garlic may be taken raw or cooked according to person preference. One of the effective home remedies for arthritis

Arthritis treatment via Bananas:

Bananas, being a rich source of vitamin B6, have proved helpful in the treatment of arthritis. A diet of merely bananas for three or four days is advised in treating this situation. The patient may eat eight or nine bananas daily throughout this period and nothing else.

Find powerful herbal remedies Rheumatic Arthritis

Arthritis treatment with Lime

Lime has also been found useful as a home remedy for arthritis. The citric acid found in lime is a solvent of uric acid, which is the chief cause of some types of arthritis. The juice of one lime, diluted with water, may be taken once a day, if possible first thing in the morning.

Arthritis treatment with Alfalfa:

A tea made from the herb alfalfa, particularly from its seeds, has shown useful results in the treatment of arthritis. One teaspoon of alfalfa seeds might be added to one cup of water. Three to four cups of this tea must be taken daily by arthritics for at least two weeks. One of the safe home remedies for arthritis

Arthritis treatment by means of Green Gram Soup

Another home remedy found helpful in relieving pains in the joints is the use of green gram soup. This soup must be prepared by mixing a tablespoon of green gram in a cup of water, with two crushed garlic cloves. It must be taken two times a day

Arthritis treatment via Castor Oil:

Treatment with castor oil has been found helpful in arthritis. The process, as prescribed by a Spanish doctor, is to boil two tablespoons of castor oil over a stove burner. The oil must then be poured into a glass of fresh orange juice and taken before breakfast each day till the disease is cured. It was advised to patients to take it for three weeks, stay for another three weeks and then do it again for another three weeks. It is, though, essential that the patient must take an alkaline diet while adopting this form of treatment otherwise the value of the treatment will be gone. One of the well liked home remedies for arthritis

Arthritis treatment via Coconut or Mustard Oil

Warm coconut oil or mustard oil, mixed with two or three pieces of camphor must be massaged on rigid and aching joints. It will amplify blood supply, and decrease inflammation and stiffness with the calm warmth produced while massaging.

I have this red circle rash on my face?
i have this circle rash thing on my face, but it doesn’t look like ring worm because it is just all red and in a cirlcular shape. i was just wondering if anyone could tell me what it was.

    1. Healing Oneself

      HI Ashley

Here are a few ideas to heal the issue.

      Cause
Although most rashes are not symptoms of a serious health problem, they can be signs of allergies, liver and gallbladder problems, lupus, bleeding disorders, nutritional deficiencies, and autoimmune diseases.

Rashes can also be due to the elimination of toxic wastes through the skin, or of an active immune reaction to an invading organism. Suppression of such a rash can lead to chronic disease states. Rather than try to suppress the rash, in such cases watchful waiting may be more advisable.

Caution: If your rash becomes chronic, forms a “butterfly” shape over your cheeks, or is accompanied by high fever and joint pains, seek immediate medical attention to rule out more serious illnesses.

Eat an organic, whole foods diet, with plenty of green leafy vegetables and yellow vegetables such as carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and winter squash. Also drink plenty of pure, filtered water, and avoid all processed foods and chemical food additives.

Flower Essences: Rescue Remedy Cream® applied topically to the affected areas.

Herbs: The following herbal remedies can speed healing: A tincture of equal parts burdock root and gentian root, the fresh juice of coriander, and/or aloe vera juice or gel.

Homeopathy: Useful homeopathic remedies include Belladonna, Sulfur, Graphites, and Calc carb.

Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy is the application of water, ice, steam and hot and cold temperatures to maintain and restore health. Treatments include full body immersion, steam baths, saunas, sitz baths, colonic irrigation and the application of hot and/or cold compresses. Hydrotherapy is effective for treating a wide range of conditions and can easily be used in the home as part of a self-care program. Many Naturopathic Physicians, Physical Therapists and Day Spas use Hydrotherapy as part of treatment.
*Purified water is essential for any hydrotherapy treatment. Remedies for Treating Chlorinated Bath Water offers clear instructions and recommendations.

Juice Therapy: Drink fresh squeezed vegetable juices on a daily basis, especially carrot, beet, radish, and garlic juice.

Nutritional Supplementation: The following nutrients can be helpful to speed healing: vitamin A and vitamin E (both orally and applied topically over the affected areas), vitamin C, essential fatty acids (EFAs), flaxseed oil, and amma linolenic acid (GLA). In addition, add half a teaspoon of baking soda to water and drink every fifteen minutes. Do this three times, and then every two to three hours for two to three days or until the reaction subsides.

Has anyone with lupus ever taken Lupazol? I heard it’s supposed to work for lupus in 3 days?
Is it a scam? or has anyone with lupus (SLE) taken it and tell me if its another scam? My mom has been in the hospital since yesterday, because she has pnemonia again. She has it like 2 months ago. Im sick of seeing her sick and tired all the time. She was recently prescribed Cell Cept (500 mg) and Clotrimalzone (10mg) because she had a swollen tongue. Can anyone help? Oh and she has been taking prednisone

    1. christibro40

Hi, Im Chris, I have Lupus, and have had it diagnosed most of my adult life, and more than likely have had it since my teens. Like your mom, I’m in and out of the hospital, Im on cellcept now, done prednison, cytoxin, plaquinil. Ive also tried natural remidies, etc. I did a quick google search for this supposed wonder drug. The thing is, Lupus has no mircale cure. If this stuff really did work, I know for a FACT my rhuemotologist would have me on it. It is not FDA approved, dosent seem to have any proven studies, and who knows what harm it can do long term at this point. Iv’e had so many people tell me that their herbal remedies will make me brand new in a week or a month. None have done anything. One even made me worse.

I do a lot of Lupus research on Lupus for an online support group I co-own on Yahoo groups, this is one thing that not one memeber has even ever mentioned, and lots of stuff gets asked about or mentioned.

As of now, Lupus is an autoimmune disease with no known miricle cure, medical, or medicinal, or herbal. The only things that we can do are take drugs, and sometimes supplements that can help supress our symptoms, or flares. Or like now with your mom’s Pnemonia get rid of that.

I’m very sorry, but until somthing is FDA approved, I wouldn’t risk it. Like they are working on somthing called DHEA which contains male hormones, that holds some promise, but as of yet, it is still awaiting FDA approval. this Lupazol, may actually do more harm than good in many Lupus paitents, escpecially in the fact that we do not really know exactlly know whats in it, and the FDA has no control over it. So its better to wait until more is known about it. All of us with Lupus want a cure now, but not if we dont know what the risks are.
I do wish that your mom gets better sweetie. I do know first hand what she goes through, and how you must feel, because I have children and a husband who feel helpless to help me, and would do anything to help me.

      Chris

Can rashes be cured with medication?
Well, I’m not talking about like, external medication. I’m talking, like, pills. And I’m not saying for a few hours it’ll get better, I mean, its like a sickness and it’s gone (for good?).

    ..can that even happen?

      Diet Suggestions
Since toxic substance can harm the liver, it is important to periodically cleanse the liver with a detoxification diet. Fresh organic vegetables, fruits, and grasses are the best way to cleanse the liver- and the rest of you – of toxins. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, processed foods, and sugar, which can further damage the liver. Steer clear of excess animal fats and fats that are adulterated, saturated or hydrogenated. They are hard to digest and pose special problems for a compromised liver.

Foods, Nutrients and Supplements That Help

Fruits rich in minerals, B vitamins, and vitamins A and C, such as melons and citrus are especially cleansing. The heat of hot lemon tea helps arouse a sluggish liver. Add a teaspoon of olive oil to stimulate the release of excess bile that congests the liver. A diet rich in plant foods is generally easier on the liver than fatty animal foods. Sunflower seeds, soybeans, wheat germ, and their oils are great sources of vitamin E.

Vitamin C protects the liver and effectively treats liver disease. Choline, a B-vitamin factor, works to ease symptoms of hepatitis. Lupus patients benefit from vitamin E, A, and B. In one study, large doses of vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) and vitamin E generated improvement in 100% of the patients. Vitamin B12 helps heal lesions, and vitamin A rebuilds a healthier immune system in lupus patients. Fish oils help prevent kidney complications for people affected by lupus, and the minerals germanium, potassium, and magnesium are needed for general liver health.

Herbs can be good detoxifying agents and help restore good health to a damaged liver. Dandelion, turmeric and gentian help maintain normal bile flow and can alleviate hepatitis. Lignans found in red berries have strong antioxidant properties which have generated complete recovery for 76% of hepatitis patients tested. Lignans are a group of pythochemicals that behave like plant estrogens. They are not dietary fiber.
Cats claw and the herb gotu kola and codonopsis have been used to mitigate lupus symptoms. Reishi mushrooms may provide some relief for people suffering from chronic hepatitis, while kanawatake and maitake mushrooms have been used to treat some of hepatitis.

Drinking herbal tea helps flush toxins from the liver. Cinnamon and parsley are effective remedies for bad breath. Chewing cloves or the seeds of coriander, dill, or fennel leaves a pleasant taste in your mouth while removing offensive odors. Gargling with sage tea, salt water, or tea tree oil is another remedy for halitosis.

Natural ways to cure red/rosy cheeks?
I have really rosy cheeks, and I blush a lot and burn easily. I’m only 14 so I don’t think it’s Rosacea, but it really bothers me. I was wondering if there was anything I could do/buy to naturally cure my red cheeks. Please help. This is super important.
I know it can’t be CURED, but anything to help with the symptoms would be absolutely marvelous 🙂

    1. Lady Rose

The redness of rosacea is often aggravated by involuntary blushing, and causes small blood vessels in the face to dilate and become more visible through the skin, appearing, at first, like a red rash or tiny red lines. Repeated episodes of flushing and blushing may promote inflammation, causing small red bumps that often resemble common acne.

Whether you have rosacea or not, there’s certainly ways to keep some facial redness under control and less noticeable.

You can try increasing your omega 3 fatty acids by taking supplements such as Evening Primrose Oil and fish oils, etc..
Fennel seeds, Flax seeds and Flax seed Oil supplements also act as anti-inflammatories. (reduce redness)
Some people have had success using Turmeric orally or topically.

      – There is a face cream called ROSACURE which is an anti-redness cream formulated for rosacea-prone skin types. (even if you don’t actually have rosacea)
      – Guinot has a face cream called Red Logic which claims to neutralize the appearance of red blood vessels.
      – LaTherapie Paris has a fortifying skin cream that is supposed to help soften high colour (reduce redness)
      – Earth Science has an herbal tonic facial mist that is an oil-free moisturizer which is sprayed (misted) directly onto your face. If you store it in the fridge, it is very refreshing and helps cool and lower the skin temperature of the face immediately. Because it’s a mist, it can easily be applied anytime.

When it comes to make-up, less is better, as your skin needs to breathe to heal.
But if you must use a foundation make-up, use a good quality brand and find a moisturizing makeup primer with a slight hint of green. It actually helps counteract the redness. Avoid foundations that have any pink tone to them.

Here are a few other helpful, (and natural) hints for a better complexion for a lifetime:
      – avoid any products with alcohol (internally or externally) Alcohol can actually burn & damage sensitive skin tissue.
      – only use gentle, alcohol-free cleansers on your face
      – avoid scented soaps and creams (irritants cause more redness)
      – have a daily facial cleansing routine (2x daily, morning & night. Do not scrub as this will irritate the skin)
      – try a dairy milk face-soak during a flare-up (as long as you’re not allergic) The dairy milk helps to balance the natural PH of the skin
      – try using face lotion containing certified green algae (try to use lotions, not creams, as lotion is more gentle on the skin and absorbs more easily)
      – avoid extended periods in direct sun (use sunblock with 15 – 30 spf)
      – drink green tea, rose hip tea, and fennel tea (great antioxidants)
      – eat foods high in anti-oxidants; such as blueberries, cranberries, purple grapes, broccoli, etc..
      – avoid spicy foods and greasy foods
      – find out what your own personal food “triggers” are and avoid them so you can avoid flare-ups of redness and possibly acne. (many people find food with histamines aggravate their redness)
      – avoid hot things. Hot showers & hot tubs, hot drinks (the heat will dilate blood vessels causing more redness)
      – try to get at least 7 – 8 hours of sleep each night (aids in the healing processes of the body)
      – try to cut down on stress (stress can magnify a multitude of conditions)

There are several reasons why a person might have facial redness. Here’s just a few of the possibilities:
      – genetics
      – hormones (teen yrs., stress, etc..)
      – rosacea
      – hyperpyrexia
      – sun sensitivity
      – allergy (food allergy, environmental causes, etc..)
      – medication induced
      – lupus

For an accurate, professional diagnosis, please consult with a certified dermatologist.

      Natural Cures

The following professional care therapies have all been shown to be useful for treating rashes: Acupuncture, Ayurveda, Detoxification Therapy, Naturopathic Medicine, Orthomolecular Medicine, Osteopathy, Oxygen Therapy (Hydrogen Peroxide), and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is a nasty little disease of the immune sysetm known as “the great impersonator”. Prior to diagnosis, it looks like many other diseases, so it is difficult to diagnose.

Not always is SLE deadly, thankfully. In some cases, Lupus patients go into spontaneous remission – others have it at a low level controlled by medications – and some others do get cured of it, although western medicine does not recognize Chinese herbal medicine as a valid cure at this time.

One feels weak and tired all the time, because the immune system is fighting the host – which is the body of the patient. Therefore, as the immune system is fighting constantly, it takes away the energy of that person. One goes, for example, from a normal night’s sleep of 7-8 hours to 16 hours a night and still feeling exhausted.

It is seen in different ways with different people – for reasons unknown except that maybe the area influenced the most is the weakest part of the body. One person will have heart involvement, another kidney, and yet another central nervous system (brain), or a combination of many types.

A suggestion – if you care about your teacher, please do what you can to assist him/her with simple things. Do NOT have pity for him/her because pity only makes the patient feel worse. Understand the disease by going to a Lupus Support Group sponsored by either the Arthritis Foundation or Lupus Foundation.

Sometimes, just knowing someone cares is enough to make a person feel much better. Kindness with sincerety works much better than fake “aw, that’s too bad” attitude. Hugs, if the teacher is open to them, should probably be gentle as one may not know what joints are influenced by the attacking immunity.

Talking about positive things instead of focusing ON the disease will help the patient as well. Talk about happy events, plans, etc. can make a difference.

Thank you for caring about your teacher. Thank you, also, for having the compassion to care about another human being who is going through a difficult time.

P.S. I had it for many years until I was fortunate enough to find a good physician who helped me become cured from it. As the saying goes, “been there, done that”, from the suffering to the medications – emotional turmoil to anger, confusion and the like. Focusing outside of myself and knowing that someone actually cared, and not afraid of being around me because “I might catch it” were probably the best medicines for me.
