Snoring affects our health in plenty of ways, makes us feel fatigued all through the day and increases the likelihood of developing cardiac diseases and high blood pressure. There are various mouth pieces to stop snoring. Smart snorers wise up and seek ways to stop snoring by approaching a doctor or by using such devices.

Understanding the basic etiology behind snoring is imperative to seek relief. Snoring can be the result of deviated septum symptoms or central sleep apnea.

Deviated Septum

Our nasal cavity is divided into two compartments by a mucous membrane, however, when the septum gets deviated from the central line, deviated septum symptoms tend to originate. Any injury to the nasal area or congenital deformities may account for the symptoms. Along with blockage of one or both nostrils, recurring headaches, allergic symptoms and sinus infections, snoring is one of the embarrassing outcomes. Mild cases may be amenable to medical treatment by antibiotics or decongestants but if it's severe, surgery is indicated. A surgeon may carry out a sub-mucous resection (SMR) in which the lining of the nose is peeled off from the septum and the cartilage and bone is removed from deviating areas after which the lining is duly replaced. Septoplasty is another surgical process that removes the septum and repositions it in the centre after straightening. Where the SMR needs to be performed under anesthesia, septoplasty can be performed on an outpatient basis and require religious following of postoperative precautions. With the correct alignment of the septum, snoring can be reduced and deviated septum symptoms can be eliminated.

Central Sleep Apnea

There are three types of sleep apnea; obstructive, central, and complex sleep apnea. When the soft tissues at the back of the throat tend to relax, obstructing the airway, it leads to obstructive sleep apnea. Central sleep apnea is a disorder of the central nervous system when the brain fails to effectively signal the muscles which control breathing. Complex sleep apnea comprises of both obstructive and central sleep apnea. Loud snoring, choking, snorting or gasping during sleep are signs of sleep apnea and need immediate medical treatment.

Mouth Piece to Stop Snoring

Snoring may be stopped by surgery or medical treatment where indicated after a careful diagnosis. Doctors may also recommend use of a mouth piece to stop snoring. These devices give relief but do not permanently cure snoring. There is wide variety of devices that work in different ways. There are many types of self-molding devices available in the market. It helps normalize sleep and stop snoring. Another device especially for those with sleep apnea pushes the lower jaw forward, thus opening up airways and tightening tissues at the back of the throat. They are little expensive but offer an effective solution. Another mouth piece to stop snoring works in a similar way and by increasing the diameter of the air passage; it reduces air speed and vibration of loose throat tissues. Despite the variation in approach, these mouth pieces help to alleviate the problem with snoring to a significant level.

It is imperative that timely medical help for diagnosis of snoring should be sought and appropriate measures of help be availed.

Why do i have chest pain, and servere breathing issues while using a ‘vpap” Servo for mixed sleep apena ?
have copd,asmath,2mi’s,3 heart stents, and then was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea requiring the use of a vpap servo, like a CAP or bi-pap.using controller and emergency inhaler, also nubulizer, but yet sill having major issues, while trying to use vpap, causing chest pain breathing issues, and also arrhythmia’s requiring 911,and hospitalization.(sorry for spelling)

    1. matador 89

      Gerald,
The possible side effects from using the VPAP machine include headaches, sore eyes, discomfort in the middle ear, sinus pressure, and dryness in the nose, throat, lips and mouth. Possible bodily side effects of using a VPAP machine include chest pain and bloating from the amount of air swallowed during treatment (aerophagia). The fact that you have had to call the emergency services due to the use of the VPAP machine, and suffering arrhythmias indicates that you should be re-assessed by your prescribing doctor/specialist and alternative method(s)/treatment should be investigated. This should be done at the earliest opportunity. I wish you well.

How does the doctor know that it is not sleep apnea? Have you been to a sleep clinic to have a sleep study? Every symptom you have just described sounds like either sleep apnea or hypopnea to me. You could get an MRI, but I really think that you need a sleep study.

      •Tonsillitis*:

The main symptom of tonsillitis is a sore throat. More symptoms occur in most cases. Some or all of the following may be present:
      • Fever
      • Bad breath
      • Nasal congestion and runny nose
      • Swollen lymph nodes
      • Red, swollen tonsils covered completely or in patches by pus
      • Difficulty swallowing
      • Headache, ear infections.
      • Abdominal (belly) pain
      • Raw, bleeding patches on the tonsils
When you have sore throat plus cold symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and coughing, the cause is most likely a virus. Viral infection of the tonsils usually goes away without treatment within 2 weeks.
      TONSILS:
Tonsils are like street dogs in Ur vicinity. They are just like security guards for Ur entire body-house.
When a thief/stranger enters Ur locality to observe the surroundings to commit a crime/theft; the street dog[s] starts barking continuously cautioning U against the dangers ahead.
Similarly, much before the entry of a serious virus/bacteria into Ur body, the first organs to be affected are tonsils-which are nothing but lymph glands.
As u r aware that lymphatic system is nothing but a drainage system. If tonsils are removed surgically, it is as good as killing Ur security guards given by the God.
It is prudent and safe to see a local homoeopath for total cure.

Sounds to me like you are having thyroid issues.

Have your doctor check that before you worry about cancer.

It is amazing how awful some things can make you feel and are easy treatable/managed.

      Good luck!

    1. .

No you can’t. You have to be prescribed one by the doctor. Then you have to have the settings programmed into it by the therapist.

Besides your anxiety attacks:my guess is that you are hyperventilating.Causes both shortness in breath and headaches. So you speed up your breathing more and that causes you more lack of co2 in your blood.
Try breathing in and out real slow.See how that works out for you.
      Sky:lots of success.

i’ve had it since birth, so did my dad, and brother. i went to a sleep study center after i was referred by my doctor. the cpap has to be fit to your face. what they do is hook you up to wires to monitor your heart, and breathing, etc, then they will wake you up, then put a cpap they fit for you earlier, on you. they will ask you to breathe through your nose as much as possible. a report will be sent to your doctor, and he will give you a prescription to get one at a medical supply.

    1. Mr. Wizard

About 4 years ago, some influential egotist in the American Medical Association, thought it’d be gee-whiz cool to take asthma symptoms of several respiratory problems—and combine them into ONE tidy PC term called COPD. I have a problem with that pratice:

      1) COPD is NOT the death knell it’s hyped by the medical community: Emphysema is—NOT bronchitis or asthma. So it IS unfair to combine the common symptoms of all three and just on spot diagnose a patient w/ problematic respiratory symptoms as COPD.

And I’m uneasy with the cozy alliance the AMA has with the pharmaceutial industry–pushing these respiratory medications for COPD patients; it reeks of being more about the money than anything.

      2) Many doctors, with AMA blessings, have run wild with this cozy PC symptom diagnose trend–and have resorted to tying in “sleep apena” to asthma patients. These local doctors invest in a discreet partnership with respiratory specialists in “sleep centers”—where they literally guide patients in for “sleep study”—and hope to sell them these money draining CPAP machines.

Sleep apena IS a medical condition that by it’s own merit warrants serious treatment—but it’s NOT fair to tag ALL asthma patients to this disorder in hopes of selling them these expensive machines.

And how idiotic it’s become to now tie several common symptoms to established medical conditions into ONE PC term thats buzz-worded in some pharmetcutial TV ad. And what the irony of that low key vocalized symptom disclaimer heard in such commercials: Makes one wonder is this particular medication featured beneficial—or life threatening…..????

See your regular doctor 1st and explain your symptoms and concerns to him or her . Your doctor will refer out to a specialist if necessary. Its going to depend on the problem(s) you are experiencing as to whether or not the doc will send you to a specialist. people who cant get to sleep or stay asleep will be treated differently from a person who is concerned about snoring or any kind of apena which means that you briefly stop breathing while sleep robbing your ogans of oxygen. Just see your regular doc 1st. Good luck!

I litterly waited till 7:00 or i think i feel asleep a little but now im fine when i try to sleep .. Was it Aniexty or SLeep apena..?

    1. Henry

It is sleep apnea , I have had it for years . A lot of overweight people suffer from it ,but skinny people can get it also .One of the things that happens when we sleep in different positions like on your back , it restricts the flow of air into our lungs , this will cause the heart to act up and in some cases shut down for a beat or two. That will make you wake up real fast and sit up like you can’t breath . Sleep apnea could cause undo anxiety , because of what’s happening .You should talk to doctor about it or have a sleep study done .

Is Humidifier same thing as CPAP? lets say CPAP is too expenseceive. Can I buy air pumper to pump oxygen?
Is Humidifier same thing as CPAP for sleep apena patients? can I buy humidifier to see if sleep apena symptom will go away? or can i use an air pumper for cpap purposes? is air pumper stupid idea to replace CPAP? is it harmful?

    1. SapphireTigress

They are not the same. A CPAP is a mask that fits over your face and helps move air into you. A humidifier just helps regulate the air around you, but won’t do anything to help you breathe better. I don’t know what you mean by air pumper, but if your doc says you need CPAP, you probably do. Sleep apnea can lead to many, many health problems, so try to get some financial assistance.

    1. storm

If you think you have symptoms of a sleep disorder, see a physician who will refer you to a specialist in this area. If you are referred to a sleep-study clinic, you will have to spend a night there being observed on camera hooked up to monitors.
Afterwards, if it determined that you do in fact have sleep apnea, your doctor will arrange for you to get the CPAP machine, assuming that is what you’d need. The machine has to be calibrated to your needs and has a chip from which information is downloaded to monitor its effectiveness.
Sleep apnea is a very serious disorder which can lead to heart attack and stroke. It is worthwhile to be treated professionally, rather than take a chance on the self-help route.

Noooooooooooooo, if you have sleep apnea, you NEED a CPAP machine. Nothing else will do. Some hi-end CPAP machines have a hunidfier built in, but is NOT the same thing. I have has a CPAP machine for about 5-6 years now.

It seems like you may not have been officially diagnosed with Sleep Apnea yet. I highly suggest that you have a sleep study done if you think you have it. It’s not a good idea to try to treat this on your own.

A humidifier only puts moisture into your air. I have never heard of a doctor prescribing it as a possible relief of snoring which is one of the most common reasons for sleep apnea (you briefly stop breathing while sleeping).

I’m not sure what you are referring to when you say “air pumper”, but a CPAP forces the air into your nose by either a mask or a nasal device. CPAP’s do have a humidifier part to them…or at least mine does.

11 year old has sleep apena?
What are the chances of dying cus my friend has big tonsils(NOT SURE HOW BIG) and says he snores VERY loud.He is also older then me and is overweight..I also have big tonsils ad snore REALLY loud…. Louder then my parents atleast… Also my mom had same size tonsils and got removed when she was 21.. Our family docter says you should get those tonsils remove soon if i want. And i sleep at a hospital for 1 week and no 1 mentions anything about sleep apena.I am almost certain i have sleeep apena.Thats i only symptom i have well maybe waking up with my heart beating fast…I ask when i will get my tonsils removed. My mom says when i get my braces whitch could be 6 mounths… Should i be worried?
    Im 80 pounds….

    1. TweetyBird

      Huh???????

I’m going to take the liberty of rewording this question.

If you suspect you might have sleep apnea and had been admitted to the hospital for a week, would this be noticed and brought to your attention?

That could depend on why you were admitted in the first place, if you truly have apnea and if it’s apparent. Apparent means it’s obvious and you present with all the symptoms.
